After dealing with the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, BP CEO Bob Dudley attempted to retake the initiative for his company. He created a big splash at the beginning of 2011 by negotiating a deal with Russian oil giant Rosneft that included a share swap between the two companies and allowed BP access to Rosneft’s Arctic holdings, reputed to be some of the richest untapped oil fields in the world. However, the deal unraveled after determined pressure from AAR, BP’s partners in TNK-BP.
